I touched some sponges on the beach yesterday and now my skin itches on every point where there was some contact. It has happened before and it took weeks to stop itching. Is there a way to make the skin expell the spicules faster, or at least to make it itch less?

the problem is that this bugger has too small spicules. i've read a book that said you could take spicules off the skin with a duct tape, similar to the waxing to remove hair. but these spicules are really small, i've seen them in the microscope once, and they're all under the skin already, so neither wax nor tape can reach them.

A "drawing salve" like Ichthammol would probably help. It draws out splinters that are imbedded in the skin, as well as other contaminants. It can be purchased over the counter. And of course hydrocortisone cream would help with both the itching and the inflammation.

You might try putting hot wax on the affected areas, let it cool and pull it off. Similar to stripping unwanted hair.

use an exfolient, like st ives apricot scrub. that usually works for fiberglass, i don't see why it wouldn't work for you too :)
