Studds had sex with minors. Foley sent dirty emails to someone who may have been 18 years old when they were sent.

Gerry Studds had a consensual relationship with a 17 year old page in Washington DC, where the age of consent is 16. He was censured by the House by a vote of 420-3. He ran for reelection, and won several additional terms. Studds was later appointed chair of the House Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries

That very same year, Representative Dan Crane, a Republican, was censured for the very same thing -- consensual sex with a 17 year old page. He also ran for reelection, but was defeated.

Note: Representative Dan Crane, a Republican, did not resign from his post, just as Gerry Studds, a Democrat, did not resign from his post.

Then main difference is that Mark Foley sent these emails and made inappropriate advances to young pages while chairing the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. He introduced a bill in 2002 to outlaw web sites featuring sexually suggestive images of preteen children, saying that “these websites are nothing more than a fix for pedophiles.”

He stepped down in disgrace, but the issue now at hand is who knew what and when. The issue is how far is a political party willing to go in order to preserve the status quo. Both parties are guilty of this in some measure, but due to the sensational subject matter and the level of hypocrisy involved, it's become the hot-button issue of this election cycle.

About 20 years. But yeah, who cares about Foley? Let's bring Studds to justice! We can worry about Foley in about 25 years.

Studds was re-elected and he actually had sex with his young friend, while Foley sent some emails he shouldnt have.

Foley resigned and Studds did not.
