This is a tremendous loss. Few journalists have provided honest reporting about the situation in Chechnya and Anna Politkovskaya was one of very few to do so... I suspect that this was a targeted assasination, perhaps by Putin's henchmen or possibly from the other side. Either way this is sad.

I doubt many people on this website would know about her, of course the US press coverage is nil. But have fun writing foolish stuff if you like, I think it is funny.

Well its sad, i feel bad for family.
I heard they did it because she was about to right a new story had gotten new information or something. It was obviously a hit by the russian government to shut her up.
People dont like people who tell the truth.
I just think it had to be an assasination, because she obviously has lived with death threats for years and I highly doubt she would carelessly get herself shot execution style.

Russia remains a cowboy state run by criminals. This you may argue is not too dissimilar to our own country even though our criminals are a bit more subtle in the execution of their criminal acts.

I agree with you that all freethinkers have to constantly be on their guard. Despite taking her life, she was not stifled in any way. May she rest in peace. Her life was not after all a wasted enterprise.
