Could be pre-eclampsia, a potentially dangerous condition for mother and baby. Having said this, I had protein traces in my urine all through pregnancy (I had twins) and it never came to anything. You should also watch out for water retention and sore heads, which are other signs. Better to check with your doctor or midwife.

It COULD be a sign of pre eclampsia but not necessarily.

I had protein in my urine because I had a urine infection.

We went through this last week at Ante Natal and there are many reasons for protein in the urine, its not necessarily pre eclampsia.

As for your blood pressure, well it depends what it normal for YOU. "Normal" for the average woman is about 120 over 70 and they don't regard it as high unless it goes to about 140 over 90. With me, my blood pressure is normally on the low side (95 over 60) so they will be concerned for me if the bottom figure went up to 80. For "Mrs Average" though, 80 would be fine.

You need to ask your midwife or doctor about this really. I'm sure if there is a concern they will tell you.

Sounds like Preeclampsia. I had this near the end of my pregnancy. This can cause stroke in the mother and your kidneys can fail, this is the spilling of protein into your urine. Your kidneys are not functioning properly. It is the bottom number that is the most important and yours is still quite low. When I was induced due to preeclampsia my blood pressure was 160/105

You need to see your doctor. Especially if you are experiencing headaches. (other symptoms can be blurred vision, massive edema) You may need to be closely monitored, or put on a blood pressure medication to get it down, your doctor may put you on bedrest, you may have to cut down on your sodium intake and you may need regular Non Stress Tests to make sure your baby is fine. Laying on your left side is said to help lower blood pressure :)

To add: Just because this person has seen a gp, midwife or some other health care professional does not mean it could not be preeclampsia. I was seeing my health care profession every 2 weeks, and within one week my blood pressure shot up, I swelled up like a balloon and developed headaches and went to the ER.
The symptoms can occur quite quickly. So please be careful.

First off your blood pressure is high so they will want to keep a check on that. A lot of women get this during pregnancy. I had high blood pressure during mine too. They will proabably want to do a stress test to make sure the baby is doing fine and keep checking your blood pressure. The stress test is where they hook you up to a monitor and see how many times the baby moves and kicks during a specific set of time. Nothing scary or hard about this. The protein in your urine could either be caused by a urinary tract infection, dehydration, or preclampsia. Just follow your doctors orders. They may want to put you on bedrest if this continues, but it is best once they put you on bedrest to do as they say. I was put on bedrest from 17 weeks on and I didn't follow orders and found myself in the hospital several times. You want your baby to bake as long and she or he can. Good luck and don't worry too much. It sounds a lot worse than it is. Just do as your Ob advises and you will be fine.

you are obviously getting checked out by a midwife if you know these details. the possibility of pre emclampsia will be monitored by the antinatal clinic. try to get plenty of rest laid out with your feet propped up above heart level. i had this problem with both mine. my blood pressure was really high at the back end of the pregnancies resulting in a stay in hospital both times and then after the birth within an hour it had gone back to normal. the epidural has the side effect of lowering your blood pressure. and a consultant may have to be on hand for the delivery. both mine were born normally within the confinement dates although started artificially and were ok. just make sure you keep up the antinatal appointments and you will be ok

Like others have said, raised blood pressure and protein in your urine are signs of pre-eclapsia. However, it is possible to have these symptoms and not have pre-eclapsia as I had a similar experience.
Have you seen your midwife? I would imagine that they would want you to go into hospital to be monitored. Pre-eclampsia is completely treatable so please try not to worry.

If you've not seen your midwife, please do call them right away or your GP so that they can get your care sorted out.

If it is accompanied by some swelling of hands, feets and or face, it could be pre eclamsia. You're doctor will probably run some tests and possibly admitt you until it's cleared, I know they did me. I was fine though! Good Luck!
