1.) What is happening to my gardenias? They keep turning yellow and dying..all the leaves keep falling off. I live in panhandle of Florida. Any ideas on what to do?

2.) Also, what is the best fast growing colorful shrub to plant in sun and shade (acidic soil)?

Thank you!

Your gardenia wants copperas (iron) try poking some rusty nails in the ground around it. They also love Epsom Salts -- much cheaper than acid fertilizers and equally as effective.

Shrub: Rhododendron (or however you spell it.) crepe myrtle, illeagnes, hawthorns, camelia, there are lots and lots.

good luck

Sounds like they maybe lacking in nutrient, add some compost to soil to improve both the soil and drainage and some good complete fertiliser. Preferably slow release. You can also buy a slow release that is specific to Gardenias. Make sure that your soil doesnt dry out or stay to wet.
I cant advise on the Plant species for your area as I am not sure what your climate is, but I am sure someone at your local Garden Centre could advise you on that.
