I think it is a personal choice and should be lefft to the woman to decide. The father should be allowed his opinion but the final decision should be left to the woman.

Abortion is not right and there is always the option of adoption, which I understand is very hard...but I strongly agree that abortion is just plain wrong. The only way I can see it to be OK is if the woman was raped and conceived the baby. And, even then, the abortion should be done as soon as the pregnancy is found out, not when the woman is like 6 months along. I only say that the abortion is OK then because if the woman was married, then I'm sure her husband would have a very hard time raising the child of the man who raped his wife. Or having people congratulate him because they think she is pregnant with his child, that would probably be emotionally abusing. But, i don't know, that's just my opinion. Personally, I would never get one. There are too many couples out their who would love to have children and can't, and then there are women that get pregnant by random men and then just kill their fetus because they don't want them or "can't handle them." Well, again, in my opinion, if you can handle sex then you should think about the consequences that may happen and be able to handle if you become pregnant.

Honestly, I find it amazing that so many people are so quick to say yes to abortion and kill a baby that has no choice in what's about to happen to them and at the same time so many people will protest outside of a prison claiming the death penalty is cruel and unusual treatment to a cold blooded evil to the core killer that took absolutely no thought or regard to the people/person he/she killed.

I firmly believe that abortion is used as a form of birth control and it should be unacceptable. If a pregnancy results from rape it should be an option. If there is virtually no hope for a quality life because of serious birth defects, I believe it should be an option. If more people would take care of business and be responsible, it wouldn't even be an issue. With all the options, tools, information, and education available for free or very low cost, it should not be an issue.

Yes, a woman should be able to do with her body what she wishes. However, when it comes to abortion, more than her body is involved. There is the man who supplied the sperm, the doctor and nurse that perform the procedure, and oh, yeah, the living being inside of her that is about to be destroyed.

I think that it is something that is hard to debate. I think that some people need to have an abortion in some cases because of health reasons, or if their own life is at stake. Some other girls may just feel like they can not raise the baby properly or can't take care of it. There are a lot of different reasons that a person may feel the need to have one. I think that if someone does not want to have a child, then they should be more careful. But if they have a legitimate reason where it is necessary to have an abortion, like for health reasons or some other major reason, then they should have one. But besides that there is no excuse.

It's simple. Don't get pregnant if you don't want a baby. Abortion plain and simple is murder. What if the baby that was aborted could have grown up and made some major contribution to mankind or the world. You never know what that person could have done if it wasn't aborted. Besides look at all the loving a parent will miss from that baby or all the love they could give it. No matter how unimportant some life's seem they all make some kind of contribution to the world.

I don't like it. But if a young girl was raped and got pregnate then I would hope she would get one. Or if a women had a life-threatening disease and it would kill her and the baby then, I think, she would have an abortion. There are a lot of reasons to have an abortion-most of them are bad...like if a women gets one just cause she won't be able to wear this fall's fashion designs. THAT IS WRONG! but it can also go back to the whole young girl and rape thing. I had a girl in my 5th grade class who was raped by her uncle and got preg. and her parents wouldn't let her get an abortion. She ended up becoming cripled and had to walk on those crutch-arm things for the rest of her life. Not only to be riliquled by the other girls and boys in my class. she ended up dying last year -7th grade- because of internal damage from having that child who ended up dying a year after birth.
Abortion is a hard topic.

wow! a loaded question. abortion is defined as the killing of a fetus. i think it's morally wrong to commit such an act, EXCEPT, in cases of rape or family based molestation.
abortion used solely as a form of birth control is not acceptable. if a woman does not want to keep her child that doesn't give her the right to terminate the pregancy. she should carry the baby to full term, deliver, and surrender the child to a reputable adoption agency. there are millions of singles and couples who are waiting for their oppotunity to be a parent. so, in essence, the mother is giving joy to someone else.
i teach at the college level and just recently (in Contemporary Issues in Women's Literature), a girl announced to the class that she has had 7 abrortions. each time her boyfriend(s) got her pregnant, off to the neighborhood clinic she would go to have the pregnancy aborted.
not to get religious here, but i believe the only point we're all going to be judged on is how well we treated one another. abortion is not treating anyone well.

Since it is a class room debate everything is going to be sugar coated and politically correct. What I really think is.. abortion is another form of natural selection. Those that are so stupid to kill their own child do not need to be propagating the planet. It all works out for the good of everyone. As long as abortions are not mandatory I really don't care if they are available or not.

I do not feel that abortion should be a solution for irresponsibility. I do however feel that in certain circumstances that they should be allowed. Rape is the most important reason, but I also feel that if your child is going to be severly brain damaged or have an unhealthy horrible life that you should have the choice. Ibelieve that this is America and no one should have the right to tell anyone what they can or cannot do with their own bodies, but as I said I DO NOT find it acceptable one bit to use abortion as a form of birh control. That is just disgusting.

What I think about abortion is that so many of todays young women don't realize what it is like not to have the right to choose.

And not enough womem voters pay attention to who is being elected. If we want our rights protected, we need to be aware that certain political leaders who are being elected do not believe it is a woman's right to decide if she has an abortion.

it's not a Democratic or Republican thing....On one hand, I feel a woman should be able to choose if she aborts her baby or not. But I do not think any woman or girl should be allowed to have a late-term abortion...or an abortion past 16 or so weeks...unless her life is in danger.

In Michigan where I live, there is a heated gubinitorial race happening right now. Granholm is the current democratic governer and she is being challenged by Dick DeVos who is a Republican. Dick Devos states in interviews that he is PRO-LIFE 100% including cases of incest and rape. So he believes that a woman should not be allowed to have an abortion even if she was raped or even if her father or uncle abused her sexually.

But women aren't focused on that fact. Our economy is poor, we are a state having a hard time because of so many automotive losses. People are focusing on the fact that our current governer isn't making more jobs and they think DeVos might be able to create jobs.

Abortion is only one small issue that combined, makes a whole candidate and his or her platform, but it's often overlooked because we feel too secure that it'll always be a protected right. It's not a protected right. It's in danger all the time.

Good luck on your debate.

Also, I notice the condescending MAN who calls you "my dear" seems to think he is all-knowing and more compassionate than everyone else???? WTF?

Abortion should not be used as a form of birth control, but until our local governments start taking responsibility for preventing pregnancies, they will continue to happen.

Any woman or girl of child-bearing age should be offered, free of charge, a long-term (5 years or more) form of birth control for FREE. In fact, parents of teens should be rewarded by states, with cash bonuses for themselves and college scholarships for their children who don't get pregnant and who willingly accept birth control.

What a concept, huh? Prevent pregnancies so fewer abortions are necessary. They educate the young women who aren't saddled with the burden of a baby.

Raising a baby IS A BURDEN in every sense of the word. That does't mean that a mother doesn't love her children because she admits it's a burden and that it's a hard life. It's a fact. So few men raise children alone that it is not fair for Mr. "My dear" to spout off like he did.
