Can someone post pictures of you on a public website without your permission?

someone i used to know posted old pictures (about 10 yrs ago) of me on their page. we no longer have a relationship and i didn't really wanted them posted. the pictures were take from this person's camera.

It depends who owns the pics! Like I can post pics of President Bush, if I had any, if I took them with my camera, NOT if I got them online! There probably is a way to deny permission to use pictures, before they get posted, but I ain't a lawyer so don't know!

Depends on whether you gave them the legal right to ownership of the pictures. If you did, then yes, they do. If they just took your picture but do not own the pictures, then no.

There are certain rules governing the publishing of a recognizable picture of someone that I believe would cover that. I.e. they need your permission to publish the photo on their site.

Nah. Okay, possibly. But who says that the avatar has to even appear like them? @Never_Eat_Wheat- Modest? Yes. Brainwashed? No. They will have to be modest considering that they desire to be, now not considering that or else they will cross to Hell or whatever like that.
