I would say that the answer was that china Responsded. But china did not respond by sending fleets to AFrica and India. Many historians believe that China sent fleets far before the Europeans did. Zheng He is often considered to be the true discoverey of North America (besides those who already lived there) for his exploits in the 1450s.
This is still a hot historical topic with much debate going on.

Europe was definetly the dominate power in the 15th century and afterward.
Native Americans and Mexicans were enslaved, killed, and their land taken.
African people were taken to the Americas to work as slaves since the Native Americans immune systems were not tough enough to fight off the European diseases.
