YES.
The Christopher Columbus that is credited with discovering America is buried in Columbus Square in Genoa so I would say that since he has been there so long that he is from there now.

he was from genova, italy.
his name was cristoforo colombo (there are still some italians with this name), but in many official scripts of the time people used to write a latinized form of their name, since some documents were in latin.
columbus was the latinized form of his last name and it was adopted by english speakers.
since he worked for the spanish kings, he also used a spanish name, cristobal colon (there are still some spanish or latin americans with this name).
some spanish say he was spanish or catalan. some croatians say he was croatian (!!) but there are no proofs of this, he appears to be italian in all historical documents.

No he is from Spain, like all my relatives. But we did not like our last name as was thought that he had stolen from the natives. And in such a way that it shocks people here that you could be related to such a creature that we decided to change our last name. Now we go by the name:Bush.Big improvement hey?
I think I am going to court to have my old name back.
Greetings:Robbie Holland
