Can be, but not always.
With certain drugs (LSD is worst), if you have something locked away in your subconscious (a worry/bad experience) it can turn into a hellish nightmare.
If you choose to take drugs, make sure you have a responsible, experienced drug taker with you, and do it for yourself, NOT peer pressure.

Meh. I've done a lot of drugs.... A LOT of drugs in my recent past.
It's not really worth it.
Weed-- If you're asking "Is getting high really that good?", you'll probably not be getting good weed to begin with (read: schwag), so it won't be a good high. Weed also saps your desire to do things. Which doesn't really matter until it's too late to do something 'bout it.
Acid-- Kinda cool, but it's 14 hours worth, and you run the risk of getting in with some shady people, not to mention getting bad acid which can really mess you up.
Ecstasy-- My personal favorite, but you run the risk of getting psychologically addicted. It's really cool, and then bam you don't want to stop doing it--scary. Also, E is one of the MOST contaminated drugs out there.. Real E is made of MDMA, which isn't physiologically addictive, but you'll get meth, MDA, Speed, and even caffeine mixed in there. Bad stuff if you get bad E.
Salvia-- Kind of a weird trip. It's legal and non-addictive. You smoke it, and it's about a 15 minute trip. Not like anything I've ever done, and a safe place to start (if 'starting' is safe at all). Although if you're in a bad mindframe, stay the hell away. It'll scare the hell outta you.
Mushrooms-- Fun, non-addictive. Long trip (hours, not minutes). And a medium to high possibility of getting useless or dangerous mushrooms rather than psylocibin (sp?).
Coke, speed, meth, heroin-- NEVER! NEVER EVER TRY THESE! They ARE physiologically addictive, which means even if you want to quit, you're screwed 'cause your body won't let you. Dangerous as hell. Trust me on this one. It's not worth the high, man.
If you're really starting out, you'll be getting bad or low quality stuff. Don't believe your friend that says, "Dude... I've got the hookups--- It's really high grade!" It's not. Trust me. You don't know good weed until you're friends with a dealer. Not 'on friendly terms' with a dealer. FRIENDS with a dealer. And even then, if they're a low end dealer (read: highschool/ college age) they're getting junk. If they're not (college/ high school) and you are--why are you hanging out with them? You're just going to get yourself into trouble.
If you want my opinion, don't do it. There are more fun things to do with your money. $60 will buy you a quarter of some medium grade stuff... Or $60 bucks will buy you an intro skydiving lesson, a video game, enough art supplies to set you for a couple months, a fun seminar at a local college, or if you really feel like it--head from a hooker (which is just as dangerous... Guh STDs)
Oh... Don't forget, you can't be a 'clean' drug user. If you do drugs, you will get to know the bottom side of society. Your friends will suck. Seriously--they're not going anywhere. They're a 'starving artist'? When was the last time they put together a gallery showing, etc.? Have some fun doing something else--take it from a pro.

Well, considering I can't get high, well by pot then, I don't think it is what it's all cracked up to be. But, if I haven't had my caffinee for a week or 3 days, and get 7 expresso shots and a whole bad of reese pieces, I'm all happy feeling. I guess what I'm saying is I know certain types of drugs and the bad thing they can do for you, so I don't mess with that. Of course the only drug I can certainly say I have messed with is legal. It's up too you.

If you have to choose vice's go for weed instead of alcohol it does less damage socially and physically .
Crack heroin and other "hard" drugs will kill you but not before it robs you of a soul .
Weed is fun and it isn't addictive - they do say it is a gateway drug meaning that if you smoke pot you are far more likely to do other drugs - This might be true I am not sure .
Is being high all it's cracked up to be ? No it's not - but it is fun

the answer isn't quite so simplistic as 'no'. people have been getting high for thousands of years. using chemicals to alter perception is common to virtually every culture on earth. the problem with 'getting high' as a term is that it's so broad. in current western culture, it's not considered acceptable to use certain mind-alterants such as LSD, marijuana, Speed, etc.. - however, there's a coffee place on darned near every city block. coffee is a mind alterant, no ifs, ands, or buts. it's no different from crack cocaine in that respect - you ingest it, it alters your consciousness. it's a matter of degree there - but then - what's the other acceptable drug? alcohol. you can drink enough alcohol to kill yourself, and it's perfectly legal. how is that different from taking speed, or LSD, or smoking pot? no different. they however are not socially sanctioned as "okay". it's hypocrisy. all mind alterants shoudl be decriminalized. the harm that the black market causes is worse than the harm the drugs cause.
for the record, the only drugs i take are...you guessed it, two legal, socially acceptable ones: alcohol and caffeine.

At the time it seemed fun - but after, when I sobered up - I couldn't believe how idiotic I really acted. Especially after watching other people get messed up while I was sober - it wasn't worth being made to look like as big of an a** ... It's not (in my opinion) "all that". Also - I didn't much care for feeling as though I had no control over myself.

No girl!! getting high is not what's cracked up to be. You try it once you may become addictive to the drug and end up in some's dumpster.

People think you get high in order to feel good. The truth is you get high in order to feel nothing when you are hurting. The problem is, when you come 'down', you still have your problems waiting for you.
