Yes spybot is free and its ok. bettter is webroot spysweeper but its not free. also try to stop all startup items that you dont recognize.

go to start run and type msconfig.- the last tab says startup and you can uncheck all the items you dont want to startup. also go to www.aim.com or www.mozilla.com i like aol browser better. www.aim.com and click on downloads and download the new aol browser. new free and very safe.

also you can always do a system restore to a point before this happend.

start -all programs -accessories -system tools -system restore.

chose restore to an earlier date and then pick a date before that happend.

unplug LAN cable or disable wireless LAN, if this make your computer runs faster. There is problem of virus/spyware/adware. If you use "Internet Explorer", Open "Internet Exploere" choose drop down menu "Tools" -> Internet Options" -> "Security -> choose "Internet" (globe icon) -> choose Customer Level and disable all Active X inside, then choose "OK", then "OK"
Hope this helps.
