How long does it take to process a k1 visa?

Does anybody have any experience with this type of visa. I am a British man who plans to marry my American girlfriend and live with her there. We have completed all the forms and was wondering roughly how long it takes.

It took me almost three years to start it and unfortunately, the relationship ended before the visa came through.
