I was wondering where the smell was coming from last night, went to reheat some food today and discovered the source, cleaned it with soapy water but there is the smell. Is there something that I can put in the microwave to take the smell away?

I set fire to a potato in my microwave and discovered that for a small price........ a new one was the best way to get rid of the smell!!! Oh, I did fry the element so it didn't do anything except set fire to everything after that so I needed a new one any way.

Crumble up some brown paper bags and put them in the oven for a few days. The carbon in the paper will absorbed the smell. My wife did this with a refrigiderator that had a spoiled meat smell. Nothing else worked. Use a lot of paper, but not so much that the air can't circulate. Shopping bags are fine.

This is kind of an oxy-moron answer but it does work. I put a cup of vinegar in a bowl and heat it to boiling. There will be steam built up inside your microwave. I wet a rag and wipe down the inside and outside of the microwave. It works great! The vinegar will stink up your kitchen for a little while but will go away. It does not smell like vinegar when you run your microwave.

Cut a lemon in half place it in a bowl of water and place it in the microwave. Heat the bowl of water in the microwave for around 30 second and it should release a nice lemony smell

cut a lemon in half, place it in a bowl of water (enough to cover the lemon) place bowl in microwave for 10mins on full power. the water will boil and the steam off the water infused with the lemon oil will cut through any grease and dirt in the microwave and leaving it smelling lovely and lemony. i do this once a fortnight to my microwave its cheaper than using cleaning solvents. as there are no chemicals, it is safe when cooking for babies and reheating food.

wipe it out with a solution of sodium bicarbonate, or heat up the solution in there and leave it to cool in the microwave. It will absorb pongs as it cools.
A small dish of neat SB powder works in the fridge too for yucky pongs like strong cheese or onions.

"Easy-Off" makes a microwave cleaner (you place the pouch in the microwave and follow instructions) after the required time you use the wipe enclosed and it cleans/removes stains and smells.
