I have a yeast infection (self diagnosed). I've had one before when I was younger and am positive that a yeast infection is what I have. I am of course miserable!!! I started noticing a change a few days ago but today is really bad! But, now I have started my period just minutes ago and am even more miserable. My mama just told me that I don't have to use any medicine because my body will take care of it since I just started my period. And... I know we are supposed to listen to our mamas but I just can't accept her answer to my problem. Therefore, I am asking for the opinions of others so that I don't have to endure any more suffering. Should I use the medicine or will it go away due to my period? Thanks. I appreciate your thoughtful answers and God bless. Also... I do have a call in to the doctor. I'm just being impatient and trying to distract myself from the itching. :) Thanks again.

I would use vagisal on the outside if you can't stand it.. don't use a tampon but yes your mom is right. Your period cleans out your "system". The period would just remove the medicine if you used it. so I would wait it out. the vagisel will help though just don't put it inside. I've had that happen before. The period might not make it go away if so then use the medicine after your done or on your last day of your period. If you are going to the doctor they can give you a pill and that will help. But you can only get it from them. Good luck.

I'm sorry, your mom is wrong on this one. You do need to get treatment and I'm afraid that you're going to have to treat it during your period. They make the miconizole cream in suppository form that can be put in at night before you go to bed. It comes with a cream that you can apply during the day to help with itch and swelling. Make sure to clean the area very very well with warm water and soap a few times a day and then dry very well before putting the cream. I would advise using a tampon during the process to keep more bodily liquid from causing the problem to get worse. There are also oral pills that can be taken for yeast infections, but you have to get that from you doctor. Get treatment though, as it will only spread and get worse the longer you wait.

The period might flow everything out, but I would eat some yogurt and drink a lot of water and cranberry juice. Is the itching internal or external because you can get some creme to help for the external itching. Wear cotton panties and no tight clothing. Dry not to get the area wet too often, that will make it worse.

Use the cream. The flow is not flushing anything out and the infection will only enjoy your weaker immunity during this time - ever notice how you breakout or get sick more when you have your period? Yeast just loves a weakened constitution.

Go See your Doctor as If it is Re-occurring It may Need some Proper Medication!
There are Over-the counter Remedies that dissolve in Water, but sounds Like a Prescription is needed! Don't Suffer!!

Take the medicine, they are relatively inexpensive and really easy to take. Remember that you might get suffering now but it can get a whole lot worse.

I've found that drinking lemon juice (or Robertsons lemon barley water) because the acidity in this helps to neutralise. Drinks LOTS of water too.

Remember, sometimes mothers dont know everything!

Your mother is misinformed. You need antibiotics and if you do not get it then the yeast infection can spread to other parts of your female organs and actually could affect your ability to have kids in the future. Get to the doc and get the pills to treat the infection

Taking the meds will relieve the itch sooner, but I would just use the external type until you've seen the doctor and ask him about it going away. Good Luck!
