Well, if you ask my husband, any sock that's not a black Goldtoe or a white, mid-calf tube sock, is gay.
I tried to get him to wear shorter socks with his gym shoes because from the knee down he looks like he's 100 years old.
he calls the short, little footie socks (that look better in my opinion) " *f* *a* *g* socks".

I don't know about style but my white ones turned pink when I washed them with my red latex devil costume.

Yes, it is after Labor Day. Be sure not to wear white though.
