In chapter 6 i have to answer a question about the quote "but a sign came down from the world of grown-ups, though at the time there was no child awake to read it." It then goes on about the guy with the parachute but wat kinda sign is it? how does it compare to wats going on in the book during WW2? PLZ help me

the sign is that they are beyond the help of humans. they begged for that sign, but the guy was dead, and so of no use to them. some people say that because the sign was dead, God was dead too, since he sent the sign, but if that was the case, God Couldnt of sent the sign. It just shows that they are truely on their own. Also, it has nothing to do with ww2.
