GOOD RAP is diminishing, let's me make that clear. It's amazing to me that crap like D4L makes millions yet people like Aceyalone, Masta Ace & people like them can't sell or get marketed. Yes, rap is garbage. I'm a rap fan & i'm saying that.

This is more an opinionated question but anyway...
I can't stand rap. It drives me crazy. Sales seem to be going down a bit, judging by popular music from various places, but also notice this: A year or two ago there were about 5 or 6 popular rap songs on the radio at one time. Now it's down to about 1 or 2.

No..

Sells keep -------->> INCREASING...

Creativity --------->> Increasing

Even the genre itself has got subgenres.

like:
Crunk
Dirty South
Hardcore
Gangsta
Concious
Pop rap
Spoken word

so sales, variety and popularity is increasing. e.g 50 Cent last year scored 3 singles in the top 10 mainstream charts and became the first artist ever to do that..

Its now harder for rock singles to get better airplay than rap. Now adays rap gets airplay than rock.

Jayz just sold out at Royal Albert Hall..and became the first rapper to perform there and the first American to sell out there within 6 hours.

so is it dimmishing?? no

rap is actually taking over..
I mean even Elton John and Robbie Williams are in studios with one of rap best producers Timbaland, Neptunes etc..and are making rap records. {http://national.metromix.com/music/natent-music-eltonjohn-s,0,6172064.story?coll=natent-headlines-music} ..
and John Mayer, Chris Martin just worked with Kanye West.

And talking about rap producers Neptunes had produced 43% of songs that got most airplay within 2003-2004. [http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/05/12/1084289744331.html?from=storyrhs]

Now how can rap be dimmishing.

check the charts, this year the only pop records that have been number one is David Powter and James Blunt. The rest have been r&b or rap.

i wish.. it's had it's run and it started out very well but then it became a parody of itself.. it all sounds the same now just the same dumb, illiterate, angry crap using the f.u.c.k. work like it's something special and wow duh i said a bad work aren't you all shocked and i hate the man and my woman is a beotch and i'll cap her good and bust her new homie an new a.s.s and drugs and you don't understand the hard life so you all suck and it's all about me and territory is all that and gang wars and i'm 400lbs now and i'll be dead at age 29 and peace out!

blah.

it's not like all music gets over done it's just this stuff died way early emotionally and it's been the same uninspired crap. i liked it when it was new and original and there was some actual experimentation with some culturized stuff like orchestrations and actual lyrics, compositions and trying out new ways, sort of like the beatles meet george martin.

but then the stuff was taking straight from other things and just changing the lyrics and adding very little input with their own creativity to the... woah word up you dumb white honkey you got it all and you are the man and i'll put a cap in your a.s.s what the hell ever.

so on. pi.s.s.es me off because rap was starting out strong and was going someplace then it went down like a stock market crash taking prisoners left and right and was not dying just hanging there like it was on a respirator without a living will with everyone fighting around it trying to keep it alive until it's brain shrunk down to the size of a walnut.

I can only hope. When I hear that music (?) it's like nails on a blackboard.......Have you ever heard rap people speak? I don't think they speak english. And they laugh all the way to the bank!

I just watched Rod Stewart perform on TV. NOW THAT IS MUSIC. You can understand the words too, now that is a different concept.

I mean, ever notice that "rap" is in the wrd "crap"? its all uninspired stuff about drunk people hitting on whores! its disgusting! when people all realize that rap is crap and that music like evanescence and AFI and Panic! at the disco and Linkin Park is awesome, I'll be all, "I told you so, I told you so!" Don't you agree?

I do believe that it is because rap has lost the fun factor. Now its all about killing, wh***s and hittin'. You pretty much know what its about before listening, so why bother?
