There's a complete difference between those that have absolutely no intention of going out to work and are happy claiming benefits year in year out, and those, like yourself, who (for one reason or another) are unable to work due to accident or sickness. I'd be lying if I said that people who choose to be on benefits that were wholly able of going to work didn't disgust me. However, for you and people in your situation, I have absolutely no problem with what your doing, I only wish that the welfare system was "fairer" and that your undoubtedly low benefit payments were higher if we stopped paying the other wasters.

I think a disability claim is very different from sponging. Most people complain about having to pay taxes to support people that are able to work but don't. I see them everyday. In your case, accidents happen especially in the workplace and for that type of situation it's very acceptable. I would highly suggest that if you're not working take the time to get an education. It may be difficult with young children but it is not impossible. If you have access to a computer (which since you posted this question you apparently do) start taking online classes, order books, research websites and when and if you're able to return to work you'll have something to offer. You're children also need a good example to grow by. If they're mum sits around all day and does nothing for herself they will do the same thing. Give them a positive way to live and they will be able to break the cycle of where they are now.

Hmm. I'm one of those who rants about spongers (not on here) and having read your question I'm aware of how that sort of thing must make you feel. I'm sorry. My gripe is with people who make a lifestyle choice of not working, not participating, living on the fringes, often involved in crime and antisocial behaviour. But you are not like those people. The benefits system is for genuine people like you, but is being abused by the clowns described above. It's saddens me that decent people like you have to live near these scum. Alright, we can't all be millionaires or brain surgeons, but we can all be contributors in some way. It's the relentless and cynical takers that get my goat. Good luck to you, and your family.

this is what the benefit system is for, people like yourself who are disabled. and your not bone idle, you worked for 15 years. if u were bone idle you wouldnt have worked at all, and anyway, who says running a home and looking after children isn't work. i think its one of the hardest jobs of all. all that multi-tasking. and your children won't be young forever, they will grow up, and give you more free time. i am on benefits too and work 6 hours a week, my husband has heart problems and is now retired so i am also a semi-carer too, as well as looking after our daughter. remember, this is what you payed taxes for.

Well, if you can use a computer you can get an education online. Then you can find some job that you can do from your computer. My family was on food stamps coming up, so sometimes I realize that collecting benefits is necessary; however, if you can contribute to society, even with a few paltry tax dollars, you should.

I think people only rant and rave about lazy joe-bloe's who do nothing but lounge around the house and drink booze when they can very well get off their behinds and find a job-- even if just a cashier job at the local supermarket.
So I think you're off the hook. Everyone on has sympathy for the sick and injured. I think people in your siutation is just what we pay tax for.
Smiles.

I wouldn't ever condemn someone in your position, I have been on benefits, due to childrens illness, retrained and am now self-employed. It does bother me though some of those people who have NEVER worked, and have no intention of ever working.
But just as an extra note, coming off of benefits is the hardest thing I have ever done, every agency involved puts block in your way.
As for you, smile and look after those kids :)

No, however you do seem able to use YA so i guess there are home-working jobs you could do.
I work from home, I have not use of my arms, but i still get by.
and I earn over £75K so it doesn't have to be a worthless job either.
It seems to me you can write and construct sentences well enough to get by in a job. Have you thought about working for a distributed call centre, they seem ok ?

Keep your spirit strong.Your kids needed love from you more than you ever know it. To see you hang on despite your present situation would make us happy. Helping people like you is our greatest desire. If you welcome the giver, you won`t have to think of it as a waste of resources.
There are a lot of things to do. Prayer for one is a powerful source of strength. Keep yourself busy in some interests other than yahoo answers.
