Music is a reflection of society, not the other way around. So, no, rock and roll does not corrupt society. Society is corrupted by corporate greed, materialism, pornography and religion. Rock and roll, as well as other genres, merely speak about the corruptions of society.

Some music can encite, but that is a whole lot different than corrupt. Encitement means the seeds of a particular behavior are already there...the music just helps to bring it out. Does that mean the music is responsible? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Society corrupts society. The popular attitudes and accepted behaviors change all the time. If a society doesn't want it to go a particular direction, then it is up to that society to stop it. The Roman Empire crumbled without Rock and Roll or Reality TV.

Look at how all of a sudded it has become ok to be a jerk. You hear "he's an a*sshole, and proud of it". Or "she's not a b*tch, she's just strong-willed." Music and/or TV won't change that. Even though Reality TV like Survivor and Big Brother showed us how being the biggest, meanest, most convining liar can get you $1 Million. But the seeds need to be present in our society to begin with

This is a very interesting question. My opinion is that old rock 70's and 80's was a time of sex and drugs, but I don't believe that rock and roll caused these things to get bad and when I say sex is bad I mean sex with everyone unprotected. (not 60's but was still bad) Newer rock and roll music I do believe has corrupted some of today's youth in several ways. Take for instance this goth stuff. It is totally derived from heavy metal music. The truth behind being goth is worshiping the devil although many young "goth" teens don't actually worship the devil it has created very bad habits and caused young teens to become uncontrolled. I think new heavy metal has caused some changes as far as today's youth but as an entire society no i do not think that it has corrupted it.
And as far as music reflected our society that isn't true. The music that comes out today gives an image just like the goth. I can't believe that one day a teen just decided that it was cool to wear all black including black eyeshadow and black lipstick. I just cannot and will not believe that

I so strongly disagree with this whole argument! It's true that SOME people who listen to certain types of music are 'unconventional,' but think of it like this: Jack the Ripper, one of the most notorious serial killers of all time, had NO rap or heavy metal. Hitler, who killed countless people, also had no rap or heavy metal, neither did Mao, Stalin or many other famed 'corrupt' people. Then take myself as a example, a young woman with a well paid job, good education, no debts, no criminal record, in a good relatioship, apparent model citizen. Shock and horror: I actually enjoy a variety of music, such a Eminem, Tupac, Manson, Nine Inch Nails and others. Just because some people who do listen to these styles end up problematic, does not mean there is an automatic link!

For me, music is all about the beat , rhythm and the mathematical arrangement of sound. It reflects what is out there- it can be sonorous, or plain and boring. It may be at its best really dammgood soothing and soul satisfying.
Rock and roll cannot be categorized in one bin called moral corruption. The classics were in another era. Rock and roll is recent, at least 50 yrs. Did it corrupt us? Time will tell when we get analyzed by the teachers in another 50 years
Just say it reflects us, that it was our generation, and we enjoyed it.

Yes, I think rock and roll music corrupts our society. People listen to the words and then go out and do what they hear.

The same thing was said about Waltzes, Jazz, Blues and Rap and every other music that became popular! The old foggie refuse to give up their domination of music! But now Rock & Roll is the music most of todays parents grew up with which is why they refuse to allow Rap! Rap ain't my favorite BTW!

I don't think rock n roll has done much, maybe back in the 60's to get the hippie movement and antiwar movement going. But there is no doubt that rap music is influencing our nation's youth to become much more violent and criminal in their nature. Hip-hop and pop I don't have a problem with. Rap is a like a pariah on our nation's black and white as well youth.

we've sufficient violence and corruption all around us and yet for some reason, we chosen rock because of the fact the scapegoat of all of it. specific, various lyrics in rock and roll pertain to the contraries of society, besides the indisputable fact that it does not constantly recommend that that distinctive track encourages such issues, quite those lyrics paints the certainty of our society; of ways our society is quite like. I recommend, what i'm attempting to declare is that, human beings do no longer prefer to pay attention the certainty, they only prefer to pay attention what's "pleasing and appropriate" of their ears. it truly is the reason rock and roll is condemned by many, on account it is between the few issues that quite speaks for what's incorrect in our international, each and every so often, it quite is the only one. yet another component: people who think of rock track corrupts the thoughts probably never heard the songs or maybe complication examining the lyrics, so it quite is confusing for them to appreciate.

I guess music could influence someone to do bad things. But ultimately I feel that the music just brought out something that was already hidden deep inside. People who can rationalize will be able to listen to just about anything and continue to be themselves. Mostly its ignorance or immaturity that was already present before the music came into an individuals life. That's just my opinion.
