With Hollywoods push for remakes, I think it would be interesting to write a screenplay that follows the Dick novel more closely... I know that the Ladd company and Warner Brothers are involved as well as The Blade Runner Partnership... do they hold onto the movie rights or at what point do those rights return to the original author (or do they ever)? Of course, I am a huge fan of the original motion picture and I wouldn't in any way disrespect the work done by Ridley Scott or anyone else that worked on Blade Runner. I just liked some of the concepts that weren't really touched on in the movie... like mercerism and the fact that Deckard was married... the 'other' police unit as well as the other android tests... the way the android corporation tried to debunk the VK test in an attempt to manipulate the system... and Deckard's motivation of retiring enough androids to buy a real animal.

this is a tuff question but in some cases a studio could get the rights to a movie and be able to protect the rights for about ten years and example is that it took ten years before the fantastic four to be made because another studio was able to buy the rights to the movie and held the rights for ten years (you could actually go to some comic book stores to find a fantastic four movie that was poorly made that came out in the early 90's)

same happened with the punisher.

then some movie studios are able to gain complete rights to a movie preventing any remakes being created unless you were to go through the same studio

sometimes the author only sells the rights for a one time film version

I think it's time for a Blade Runner remake too. It would take a very caring director though to do it the justice it deserves.
