This may sound strange -but I am an Indian with Spanish nationality and live in India but have homes in both Spain and Mexico. I though am extremely proud of my roots but most Indians do not take me to being Indian due to my looks and my accent. Having lived in both the cultures - its a very distinct divide in the cultures. Spain is the crux or the motherland for almost all Mexicans and they adapted to the Spainsh way of living after being attacked and taken over by the Spaniards. The Mexicans have not yet got the merit they deserve as they were almost used as slaves by the Spaiards , who literally razed their culture to non existence. You will find so many Inca temples in the city limits on which the Spainiards have built their buildings and churches. The pyramids of Mexico also prove the kind of knowledge the Mexicans ( originals ) had . Its a pity that the Spaniards did not mix around too much with the people of Mexico and this has been really let down. Though they consider Spain as their motherland, worship the same Gods - they are still considered as the scum - which they are not.
I quoted the mix as in India - the British who ruled India for three centuries for all their superior attitudes, did mix a lot with the locals and we have a race called the Anglo Indians. These people too have a problem with their identity and most of them consider England as thier motherland. Coming back to the subject - The Spaniards were the rules and the Mexicans the slaves. The only one thing that the Spaniards did leave behind as most conquerors did was their langauge.
Hope I made some sense.

Spainish was influenced European culture especailly Roman. Mexican is mostly the native culture that the Spainards tried to repress. Were you looking for an anthropolical standpoint or something more general?
