Under most circumstances, the prescription for contact lenses is different than for glasses. Besides, there are different fits for contacts. Your contact lens prescription will not only be for specific brand and strength, but for size.

You need to get a prescription because you might need a special type of contact. To be on the safe side get your eyes checked, you don't want to take a chance on buying contacts you can't see in. If you have recently gotten an exam then you should be fine.

Greetings,
Well first it would help to know what presription glasses you have and if you have a stigmatism or not. If your going straight for looks as most of us fashion people do then I would highly suggest you get an eye examination since you will want to be fitted for the right contact lenses so that you find one that is comftorable and fits your eye right. If its your first time wearing contact lenses you should be aware that they might not fit at first not because of the name but soley because you are not used to the nature of the lense on your eye. For Example it took me 1 hr to put the contact lenses on my eyes for the first time. After this I am down to less than a second now. Considering your a girl( I am taking it) you are most likely used to putting stuff near your eyes when you put on eye-liner and all different sorts of makeup.
So it will most likely be a much shorter period of time for you to put them on. This is the rundown:

1. Get an eye appt with an eye doctor who has a large supply of lenses from different manufacturers.
2. Tell them your regular glasses prescription.
3. After the examination get fitted for contacts.
- Try on lots of different pairs. I use Acuvue 2's
Wallah your all set to go.

contacts require a completely different exam.. its slightly more $$$ than the glasses prescription, i would also recommend getting a new glasses prescription and having that as backup, some times you may want a break from your contacts, also once you fine a brand you like, start ordering them on line 1800contacts.com
or at Costco, they have the best prices... good luck
you will also run into picking ones that you remove every night or the ones that can stay in.. good luck

You might have to get your eye measured and looked at to make sure you don't have astigmatism b/ then you would need special contacts and your doctor has to see you put them in correctly not to mention that you have to wear them only a certain amount of hours each day until your eyes get comfortable with wearing contacts.
