Wouldn't it just be 13/x? Because the denominators are both the same (x) and then adding the numerator makes 13. Since you don't know x, you can't express it in any lower a term.

8/x + 5/x = 13/x


It's as simple as that, because x is a common denominator. It can't be simplified any further.

taking lcm which is x
so,8/x+5/x
13/x
it is in lowest term
