what on earth is a "rill?" Is it some kind of fish? OH, you mean REAL. Ok, I see now. There is an inherent difference in being BASED on a true story and actually telling one. BASED means that the only thing that needs to actually be real is maybe a tiny little thing here and there. The rest of it doesn't have to be at all like the real story. For example, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was loosley based on a killer by the name of Ed Gein who wore human skin. However, that's where the similarity ended. It was the only similarity, and they don't have to be anymore similar than that to say that it was BASED on a true, or "rill" story. It's not lying...one character really is being BASED on a real life guy. That's all they need.

Yeah, like 'Eight Below' at the begining says "Based on True Events' then at the end you see it was not based on anything other than hearsay... Great movie though!
Like they based the family in Texas Chainsaw on 3 real-life serial killers, so suddenly the whole movie is based on a true story...lol
At least the producers of 'Titanic' had the good sense NOT to say it was based on a true story. They said from the begining it was about a 'fictional love story' that takes place during an actual event.... at least my props to them...lol

The key word here is 'BASED' that means there will be an element of truth in the story. The true bit might be small or large in the movie and it will be a different perpective of what really happened. Just enjoy it

Blair Witch Project as the perfect example, right? I was nearly taken in by that crap and yes, I felt insulted and stupid at the same time. It did what it did, though, by making people curious enough to see the movie. So from a marketing point of view: good job... well done... well done indeed... you're going to hell for it, but good job.

Some movies are really based on real life events. Not all though, you just have to look carefully at what your watching and think about it. That's all.
