If you just want to go to Starbucks or another hotspot and connect you need a wireless card that will go into your laptop
PCMCIA port assuming you have a laptop and PCMCIA port

They come as (802.11b) older, slower or (802.11g) newer faster
Examples
Linksys WPC11 Wireless (802.11b) Notebook Adapter
Netgear WG511 Wireless (802.11g) PC Card
these are rather inexpensive you can buy at Electronics store
cost is $10-50

You can also use
USB
NetGear WG111US 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter or
Netgear WG111T 108 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter
these are about $50-70

I would go with the 108 Mbps USB if you can afford it

Also Amazon.com has new or used in stock

If you want to setup wireless in your home you need DSL/modem/cable and a router
