As I mentioned in another answer, I am a pure Indian by birth but spanish by nationality and having lived for so many years in Spain and Mexico - almost all the Indians who do not know me do not accept me as being a hindu and that too of the highest caste. I dont know if you could describe this as racism but it really exists in India big time and between its own people. There are four main castes and each caste prefer marrying withen their own people. It is not well accepted for a hindu to marry a Christian or a Muslim and it applies to the Muslims as well who shy of marrying Hindus. Christians are more accepted. The lowest caste certainly gets the brunt of racism and are really looked down upon. They withen themselves ( most of them ) do not strive to come up to the standards of modern life and would rather do the menial jobs that they have been doing for generations or depend on the government to get them jobs as there is this quota system in India, where its mandatory to have X number of jobs kept open for these people. The people of the other castes have really been at this and with reason. Would you like to be treated by a doctor who just about scraped through his exams or failed and was passed as he was from a backward caste? The racism does exist and this does not apply only i India that I have taken as an example but all over the world. The Morrocans in Spain, The Indians in the US and the UK, the muslims in so many countries and the some of the worst racism pertains to the African people. I recall once I had a great friend who played ball for the NBA and was a player in Spain. As he did not speak any Spanish I was "attached" to him amd we went out one day on a double date with two white Americans and what he told me turned out to be the absolute thruth. When these girls returned to the States, they both started writing letters to me but no mentioning him once! And I still recall his words - they are milk, you (I) am milk with coffee and he was black coffee and hence would never be acceptable to a white family. It is traumatic though I personally have never been a target of the same and I imagine its because of my looks, my accent which is acceptable to Indians, Spaniards and all and sundry.

As an African-American woman, I've definitely seen my fair share of racism. My most recent episode was when my sister and I went into an expensive boutique to buy ourselves purses that we decided to splurge on. The saleslady didn't bother to greet or assist us when we walked in, which at first didn't bother me too much since I don't like overbearing associates hounding me for a sale. However, she began "straightening up" displays in the vicinity of wherever were. I asked her to unlock one of the purses that I was interested in so that I could examine it and she said "You do know that this handbag is $725?" My reply was "You do know that I didn't ask you how much it was, I asked you if I may see it?" She turned beet red and unlocked that bag and any other bags we requested to see. When we were at the counter getting ready to purchase our final choices, I asked to see the store's manager so that I could tell him about our ill treatment and have him ring us up. There was no way I was going to let that woman benefit from a HEFTY commission from us! He was extremely embarassed and apologetic. The saleswoman may have seen us as just two black women, but our money was just as GREEN as the next person's!

Well at work a few months ago an unqualified black woman was given a supervisory position that qualified people of other races applied for just to have minorities in leadership positions, needless to say the whole place is in the crapper now.

My uncle ( a white man) was living in Indiana and my granny went to visit him. He was living in pretty crappy apartments because he couldn't afford any better. Well, the apartment next to them was blasted music at like 1:00 in the morning so my granny gets herself up and knocks on their door. They start getting an attitude towards her (they were black men) and my uncle comes. They share some words and my uncle got the crap beat out of him....he almost died.
Though these men were awful they do not represent the black race.....just as white men who do awful things do not represent the white race. Its all just ignorance.

I think racism is because people do not know what other people are like. People come from different cultures and have different traditions and different problems. New people do not understand these things. This may lead to racism. But once people talk to one another and know that others too are human beings like themselves, and that they too have the same kind of issues and problems then this thing should diminish. We should keep in mind that people come from different backgrounds and environment may have sculpted them in different ways but they are basically the same thing that we are.
