could be a number of things did the engine mis-fire before stalling ??-have you let the gas tank run empty lately??-if you have then debris from the bottom of the tank may have become lodged in your fuel line to the carb. there could be debris in the fuel pump itself. in the case of pinking the engine will overheat due to 1-the ignition timing is over-advanced 2-weak fuel mixture or 3-low fuel octane rating. a carbonized engine can also cause pinking. i would have a vehicle technician look at your fuel system. if the engine cut out suddenly then it may be an ignition fault-check all connections under the bonnet (hood) for loose wires also checking for any dampness or moisture around the EHT coils (CAUTION!!! THESE CONTAIN HIGHLY DANGEROUS VOLTAGES-ENSURE THE ENGINE/IGNITION ARE SWITCHED OFF). if moisture is apparent then a water displacement spray will usually cure the problem.

This exact thing has been happening to me four a couple of months. It cuts out for a moment, then runs normal again. Sometimes it dies, but it always starts right up again.
I tracked my problem to a 40 year old connector with a severed wire that was still in place enough to touch most the time. The wire went from the neg side of the coil to the points.
I spent a grand total of 15 minutes, a drop of solder and a new connector and it runs better than it has since I bought it 20 years ago.

i own a repair shop, and i think its an ignition problem on it,,i have seen a lot of them do this and the first thing people do is replace the fuel pump on them, but the real cause of it is the ignition system on it,,something is loose on it that causes it to happen, and then after a few minutes it seems OK again,,it may also be a fuel pump relay heating up on it, when they get warm or even hot they,ll kick out and when they do its does shut down the fuel pump on it,but after its restarted it does OK,id have it checked out real good, i wouldn't want to be in heavy traffic when it did it again, good luck i hope this help,s.

Your coil pak most probably has a crack in it. When hot, it will expand at the crack causing it to misfire at the plugs. When cooled off, it contracts and contact is made and fires on time again. To test it, pour water on it ( coil pak ) when car is running. If it stalls, then it is the coil pak. Also, don't rule out the egr. It may be plugged up with carbon.
When looking for car problems, start with the simplist and least expensive solutions that may cause the problem and work your way up.

It is either a fuel pump, fuel filter or fuel injectors . You need to take it to the mechanic . It could be simple could be costly you need to find out before you get in traffic and the stupid thing kills you or injures someone else for your car stopping . Good Luck.
