I know suicide is already illegal, but saw a recent news article about making it either more illegal or federal crime or some other nonsense.

There are two potential positive effects to having such a law:
1. The decision to commit suicide is not always rational, and some people who plan it possess specific beliefs about the afterlife. Some believe that if it is illegal to kill oneself then it also must be a sin, and that, therefore, their last act in life would be the commission of a sin, insuring an unpleasant afterlife. This probably prevents a handful of suicides per year.
2. More importantly, making attempting suicide illegal empowers law enforcement officials actively to halt an attempt that's in progress. For example, say it wasn't illegal, and a police officer entered a house and found an unconscious person bleeding to death in her bath tub from razor wounds. In that case, the officer would not be able to call for medical intervention without her permission. Since it is illegal, however, the officer can stop attempts in progress.

Making suicide illegal or suicide being illegal would make such a mockery of the idea that we have liberty and freedom. Your life is your own, can't you choose not to live?

Many persons who attempted suicide in Britain in past centuries were hanged for the crime. Didn't George W. Bush promulgate a similar law when he was governor of Texas?

In my opinion it makes no difference i.e. a person who wants to kill themself is bound to do it, i think it's more of a thrill if it's illegal. They will be sent to prison if they do not suceed. Then they may try again. So it gets rid of the people considering this deed. Therefore decreasing world population therefore making more breathing air for you.Why you considering suicide, i heard the best way to off yourself is Walk into a police station and Yell this is a Stick up........with your finger in the air.

It's illegal to practice suicide? Who cares?

I thought it was already illegal, which is why it is impossible to collect on a life insurance policy if the insured committed suicide.

That being said, I seriously doubt that someone who would actually kill themselves is worried about legalities! They would be dead, why would they care?????

the law can't control suicide I would think that.... suicide is an option for who are considering it... unless the law is going to put them in jail or charge them a fine after death..... God will punish them not the law
