Carmella, I think the majority of men are controlling, it's just that each of them have a different agenda, it's a guy thing. Let me tell you my husband is very controlling, it is so obvious to everyone. Everything that comes out of his mouth where I'm concerned is "No", or it's always on the negative scale, depending on our conversation. I think he is this way because I am so much more educated than he is, also I earn probably 3 times more than he does. I think he would like for me to appear just the little wife, or a little bimbo, and I refuse. So if you are a wife or partner, and this is happening to you, then you need to stand your ground. Don't argue, or get angry when he appears to disrespect your views, then it will make you look stupid, dumb, or insecure. You do not have to be highly educated to present yourself as a smart woman, it's just in the way you choose to demand respect. If this question is about spending money, or buying frivolous things that you actually don't need, than maybe you need to say "No" to yourself, before he does. Now if you earn your own money, than buy what you want if it's within reason.

It's the way they were raised. For some reason they think if they didn't come up with the idea then it isn't a good one. If you have this problem then I suggest that you turn it around and make it sound like his idea. If they think that it was their idea they are much more likely to say yes.

I think you may be generalizing here. It sounds like you and your partner need to work on your communication skills. Aside from that, your question is quite vague so I'm sorry that I have nothing further to say.

Because everything a wife asks for costs money, how would you feel if the situation was reversed?

Wow, what an eyeopener... All those questions I've replied to my missus and all the time I was just saying "No no no no no ...."
Does it happen when I talk to everyone, or just her?
My God, am I mad? What are these other words I hear coming out of my mouth?
Aggghhhh!

Because you're asking us to do something, that would mean we'd have to stop doing what we were already doing, and what we were already doing was what we had taken the time to do because that's what we actually wanted to do. We don't want to do what you're asking us to do, or else that's what we'd be doing. So you see the logic in saying "No".
