it might sound wierd, but owning a nuclear weapon is the best way for peace, "Deterrence" is a nuclear strategy which means "assured mutual destruction", so by posing as a nuclear power, you insure that you don't get nuked.

well yes, we can live without them, but it's too late now, we have them, so either everyone should have them, or no one should.
