When the working poor has to hold 2 or 3 jobs and have roommates in order to get by,
Are they completely delusional?
Why are they still hung up on the lie Reagan told about the welfare queen driving a cadillac?
Why are they still obsessed with it when there are so many othere problems the working poor is facing?

I think they are angry that the world is hard and they need a scapegoat for their anger.. People who live desperate lives and battle self esteem issues always need someone to put down so they can feel superior.

But they are not superior as many of the poor are the nicest people you could meet..wonderful parents and humans. Good and true Christians that give to others out of their little.

Jesus loved the poor as he knew their heart and struggles. He spoke of the poor more than any other topic except salvation. He also had chose words for thre rich and those without love in their heart

.He demonstrated love when he told the parable of the workers who worked all dy getting the same as those working a few hours. He preached giving more than one asked you for..if they ask for your coat, give them your hat too.

.Does the Christian right ever think that their downright hatred for the human beings on welfare violates these words and is a grieivous sin..of course not..they think they are always right..just like the pharasees did...they are just as hypocritical if not more so...empty whitewashed tombs with dead men bones..the moral pharasees hated Jesus for telling the truth and so do Reps when you point this out.

What is puzzling is how all their anger is put on a woman trying to survive on a meager income either because her husband left her for someone else or her boyfriend lied to her, who could care less about his children, and took off to leave her to deal with it.

Republicans don't seem to realize or care that it is children they are hurting..these very children who they want so hard to be born (prolife you know but not pro quality of life).

They don't care that fatherless kids are being asked to give up their moms to work two or three low paying jobs, leaving them with no parents to guide them..welfare was an investment into these kid's lives and allowed their moms to stay home in the child's formative years to try to rear them and overcome the impoverished neighborhoods they live in and the handicaps of not having a father.

When no parent is in the home to teach values (as they are too tired after working 16 hour days), society suffers..these children are at risk to drop out of school and turn to drugs, crime, have teen pregnancies, etc. They have a big hurdle to cross since we chose to send away their moms and society will pay the financial cost down the road via crime, etc. This is extremely cruel...the little value they place on life (while proclaiming how much they love life)

When you say you are pro-life, but then aren't willing to help the destitute woman choosing life because, God forbid she gets something you don't or she takes a few dollars out of your tax money, then you are the ultimate hypocrite and ruining it for kind Christians like myself who try to follow the teachings of Jesus. So many people, especially the young ones, hate Christians because of how you express your Christianity. I resent you.

At the same time, you have no care whatsoever, that corporate welfare is rampant. Ten years ago, we spent 170 billion in corporate welfare or $1388.00 a year from each person.Contrast the amount with the money going to ALL social programs combined (welfare, housing, school lunches, medicaid, wic, etc) . It came to only 1.14 a week, so welfare was considerable less...maybe 38 cents a day or about $10.00 a month to help millions of kids..and society down the road...that is about 1/10 of what goes to multi-rich corporastions with no need except greed and no benefit to anyone but stockholders...not like investing in millions of fatherless kids lives..

Yet now with welfare changed, we give less to welfare and way more to corporate welfare..this is mostly to corporations already making millions and usually billions a year in profits. Yet they have no trouble with that..probably 20 times more than what would go to welfare struggling moms and their poor kids.

In December these so called moral voter's politicians cut 50 BILLION dollars in social programs like education, ,etc in order to cut the skyrocketing deficit they caused while turning around three weeks later to cut 70 BILLION in tax cuts for the rich..they lied..said it was to balance the budget but was really just to offset the tax cuts...

It isn't enough the poor send their kids to die and come back without limbs, they must now pay for the war by losing food or a home or medical treatment, etc while the rich sacrifice nothing and corporations sacrifice nothing (never going or sending themselves or their won kids to war) and theyget richer off this war and the tax cuts born on the backs of the poor who have no lobbyists to bribe the politicians and offer them jobs when they leave office. I would hang my head in shame were I them.

Repubklicans also generalize that the poor don't want to work and just lay around which is not true. Many have had their jobs outsourced, have no jobs in their communities, or are sick with no health care or have other problems...Have you no compassion, people...

This allows them to dehumanize them, increase their own feelings of being superior and of working harder and having ethics, and discount the suffering of the kids...no concern that the dad is off scot free. no understanding of the disconnect between wanting no abortions but not being willling to help the mom out...just like in the 50's and 60's when I was in school the unwed moms were horrible ostracized and cruelly treated...Yes, we love your baby who you must have but at the same time we hate and dispise the mom who bore him, the mom who loves him, the mom who worries how her little one will turn out with out her there. (I am personally very prolife)

Shame on these people...their hatred astounds me in the midst of their loud proclasmations of their faith, their values, their morals while forgetting the God they claim to love taught giving and helping anfd being the good samaritan,,,preached feed the hungry, heal the sick, comfort those suffering, shelter the homeless to the least of these and to those without husbands and fathers...

Just look on here and you will see examples of this hatred and superiority..thank God that he loves the poor and helps them as the Bible sayss for dems and rep alike absolutely hate people on welfare..who would be on it and take this criticism if they didn't need it.

The sad thing is how they rationalize and never see their own hypocrisy, lack of love, lack of following what Jesus told them...and yet constantly remind us of their great moral values...
They have no care for the poor...working or otherwise and, sadly, they never will...

All of this people on welfare have better things then me is a load of crap. I guess you are homeless then??.. There are some people who are on welfare and live for free in those dirtball crime ridden projects who have to worry about their children getting shot everyday and yes some of those idiots CHOOSE to stay there.. and I believe they should be cut off. But what state do you live in where people on welfare are living on the high horse.. I know here people on welfare have to work in order to recieve it and the max time to get cash welfare benefits is 24 months. I do know one or two people who somehow managed to lie and get all types of benefits that they did not deserve. but I believe these people who "work" the system are an exception to the rule. At least in this state.. I can't really believe that there are still states who hand out welfare willy nilly and have welfare recipients living like kings and queens yeah right. That's just something that some people say to make themselves feel better... "I work 2 jobs and I'm living paycheck to paycheck I can't better myself because welfare people are taking all of my money... " Yeah Right.

1. It's stealing. Nobody has a right to my money except me and my family. I earned it. You can ASK me for help, but stealing is wrong.

2. It is a myth that the "working poor" have to hold 2 or 3 jobs to get by. This is a flat-out lie. 2 people working 1 minimum wage job each can get by living together (roomate, spouses, whatever).

3. Many on welfare abuse it. I used to work as a cashier at a grocery store. People would buy $200 worth of beer and cigarettes with cash, and $100 of groceries with food stamps. This was not an unusual occurence, it happened a LOT.

4. I really hate to sound like a jerk, but this is the truth : people get what they deserve. The poor are poor for a reason. It is a result of their choices, it is not imposed upon them by anyone. Nevertheless, it is my responsibility as a decent human being to help the poor. But I must help them of my own free will, it can't be forced upon me. That is stealing, and no matter how good your intentions, stealing is wrong.

I am all for giving people a hand up, but not a hand out. Things in life happen and some times you cannot get out of them. Giving someone a hand for a little while is fine, but when it becomes a way of life then it becomes a problem.

People make choices in life and they have to be responsible for their actions. If you choose to screw around in school and don't get educated, why is it the problem of society in general to support this person? I believe that we should put this person in a job training program and help them learn a trade or a skill that makes them productive in life. Not just give them money.

I worked in poor neighborhoods when I was younger. The people on welfare had nicer things than my family did. They had housing paid for by the government and what did they do, they trashed the building and destroyed things.

So why do I want my tax money going to these people when they can't respect what is given to them. They should have to work for this money by picking trash up on the streets, going to job training, etc. A majority of these people do not work 2 or 3 jobs, they just sit around and cash the checks.

Well I for one could go right down the road from my house and take a ton of pictures for you, the housing area nearby would prove that point easily.... for some reason every parking spot has a nice shiney under 5 year old car in it (must be the free/low rent) Beginning of the month the whole neighborhood smells of grilled steaks (food stamps are grand. also they sell well) The welfare system we have is a joke, it needs major reforms A helping hand is much different from a hand out.

I've seen the "welfare queens" who have nice cars and huge TVs while their children starve. That's why I have a problem with some people living off of welfare. However, I also believe that welfare should be there for those who need it.
I DO feel horrible for the "working poor"...my husband and I aren't exactly rich. BUT, what can the government do for them? Throw money at them?
I simply believe that instead of treating the SYMPTOMS of a problem, we should fight the source.
That's the same as what most conservative Republicans believe.
There is no easy solution to peoples' financial situation.
One of the biggest problems I see is that people prefer to blame the government for their issues, instead of realizing that only THEY have the power to overcome.

Any conservative, regardless of party, believes that welfare, or any other entitlement is not the job of the government.

When ever you have any charity you will always have some fraud, that is to be expected, a cost of doing business. But the real issue isn't the fraud, it is that the government (especially at the federal level) should not be in the business of handing our entitlements. It starts a dangerous cycle of dependency. About 1/2 of all welfare recipients are second and third generation recipients.

I grew up poor and know of one or two examples of people who received benefits for a short while to get established and they prospered afterward. So I know that social programs are not a waste. But we have to stop throwing money and resources into a system that contributes to the cycle of hopelessness, despair, and dependency that the current welfare system fosters.

I don't think cons understand that some people hardships in life and aren't brought up with jobs aplenty around them or with silver spoons tucked firmly up their backside.. it's as if the poor are just lazy people who deserve nothing..

btw i cannot believe the cons' sentiments here.. poor for a reason? yeah, to keep the rich wealthy! benefit isn't stealing. it's about everyone having the quality of life they deserve as human beings.. regardless of what cards they were dealt with. go socialism!

For the people who work but stillcan't make ends meet, they need any help they can get.
For the people who sit home and collect food stamps, welfare, medicaid, and have their rent/utilities on sliding-scale and DON'T work...we are tired of paying their bills and footing their lifestyle.
