i was just wondering is there a point where you are too dilated and not going into labor on your own that a dr will just send you into the hospital and start you on pitocin or break your water? i am about 5cm dilated and feeling cramps but no contractions....my sister in law was recently in the same boat and her dr went ahead and sent her to deliver....i wasnt sure if this was common practice or if every dr is different. i am 39 weeks and sure would love to leave the office today to go have my son. so is there a point they just start you if you get too far dilated without starting labor or will they just keep letting you dilate until the baby's head is hanging out??

Call your doctor and tell him the same thing as you said here. You could have your baby on the street corner with no labor at all, or the next time you go to the toilet.

Best wishes to you and your new little addition to the family!!!

Sounds like you have a weird *** doctor, If your plug has fallen out which i am sure it has since you are 5 cm dilated. the risk of infection grows. so why is he waiting?. No need at 39 weeks.
It is not normal practice, maybe if you have the baby now and not in a week you will interrupt his vacation. Anyway speak up and tell him, this is BS and you the customer who is paying his outlandish bill wants this over with.

Go to the dr and tell them that you would like to have your baby now.

I was 4 cm, no contractions. They started me with the Potassum and then in a couple of hours of pain and some contractions I had my daughter 7 weeks ago.

Go to the dr NOW dont want to have a baby in your bathroom.

Congratualtions!!

My problem was just the opposite, I wasn't dialating, and ended wup having a c-section. Dr.'s know how long to let you go. I know that you may be tired of carrying around the load, but the longer the load stays in, the better. Don't worry, you will see your son soon enough, sleep now!!

My wife was at 5 on our last child. She saw the Dr and was sent to the hospital. They induced and 45 minutes later my son was born.

If I were you I would call my doctor tell them you want to be induced today ,I don't really know why these doctors wait so long 5 is pretty good you could go straight from 5 to ready real fast why would your doctor wait ,here you stay if you are a 3 cm.so call and tell them you want induced .I will say a prayer for you .

It really depends on the doctor but if you express your feelings and concerns to the doctor they will more than likely send you to the hospital. They don't like letting babies be overdue too long it can cause major problems.

Demand that you want to be put into the hospital and seek medical help.Due to the fact that you have already dialated 5 cm. Because at 4 cm. they are supposed put you in the hosptal.
