A Humanist is another name for a populist- someone who is seeking what the majority of the people want! Often these people are termed as liberals by their detractors!
A Progressive is someone who is looking at new answers for problems, as the old answers did not work! Often these people are also termed as liberals by their conservative detractors!
Conservative someone who looks at the past for their answers, most often trying things that did not work for the hundredth time. Called conservative by themselves as it is a old name, usually called idiot or moron by their detractors!

God knows, in the old days when the atlas was covered with pink coloured Empire countries, we had people known as philanthropists. Could a humanist be a philanthropist who can't spell long words?
Also, I believe that a humanist is actually someone who believes in acting to benefit mankind without the need for the promise of religious rewards after their death, ie going to heaven. Again, when I was young (so, so long ago, when you could buy a Norman castle for sixpence and have change for a Saxonburger) these people were known as atheists ( or in the Orient, Taoists).
A Progressive likewise seems to imply someone looking forward. Thank god, perhaps we'll finally find out how to make fire, and discover the wheel. The world has never had progressives before.

Humanism is a varied belief system, and could be many things. However, here on Yahoo answers, it is mostly likely someone who just took a Philosophy class last semester and read about Marxist humanism. Of course, this type of humanism is just would it sounds like, modern Liberalism.
However, if you like, you can read all about Marxist humanism on Wikipedia, I will provide the link below.
A progressive is the proper term for what most people today call a liberal. Original liberals, ones that existed prior to the early to middle 20th century, would be called Libertarians today.
I think modern liberals started calling themselves such to fool uneducated people into believing the Founding Fathers were liberals.
That is why you see so many people making posts incorrectly stating "how can you disagree with liberals, The Founding Fathers were liberals!!!"
The Founding Fathers were liberals; however, they were NOT Progressives, i.e., modern day liberals.
As a Libertarian, I find it offensive that "modern liberals" have usurped the term liberal.
Any liberals who do not believe me, look up it up yourself.

I don't like labels. But my dear friend "Humanist" is just that. He possesses a conscience and compassion for humankind absent in most people. His intelligence and wit permeate what would otherwise be a bland answers forum. He speaks the truth which may be hard to hear sometimes but it needs to be said. The man is a global patriot.
