My partner and I wear our wedding rings on our right hand as a symbolic gesture that we are not legally allowed to marry.

My friends, family, the justice of the peace who performed our civil union, our minister to attended, and the mayor of our city and our city attorney who were in attendance ALL used to the word 'marriage.' Not a single person said we had been civil unionated.

But the government doesn't recognize it.

So, we wear our rings on our right hand.
