would 50 lb be too thin?

Cover stock is usually 80 lb weight. 50 lb will tear too easily.

Sorry AA, but no one uses gsm in the printing business...its stock paper weight....book covers can run at 80# or 100#.
some are made out of vinyl!
Our book covers are 80#, but we have a 1000 minimum.

1st thing, it's not lb, it's GSM and it depends on the size of book.
