I have a 1999 Windstar with 45,000 miles. The other day I was driving west about 60 mph and there was a VERY strong south wind. I had my lights on and the air conditioner on and I looked down and the digital display for the odometer, message center and clock on the radio was fading in and out. As soon as I turned north and the wind was at my back, the display returned to normal. Any ideas??? Are these just piece of crap vehicles? I just had to have a wheel bearing replace and now it's making ANOTHER rubbing noise and once in a while a knocking sound. Is it true you can take it to Napa or some place similar and have it hooked to a computer and checked free of charge? Thanks so much for any help!

This sounds like typical Ford electrical problems. A buddy of mine had a mustang with no dash-lights. One day a wire wore through its insulation against, and fused to, the metal casing of his stereo. Pop! The dash lights worked, but his dome light fuse blew the moment he opened the door.

Ford also had the issue with switch ground instead of power on the cruise control. Some times when a wire shorted to ground, the cruise control would hit full throttle and hold it.

I never have been a fan of Ford electrical systems.
