Blood worms are great for him. I use freeze dried ones for all my bettas, but not as their only food. (Blood don't make a balanced diet, but with the flake it should e good.) Be careful not to over fed. Bloodworm are one of the worst food to over fed. (Mainly as betta love them so much.) Take a look at the feeding link below, and the pictures of betta bellies. This is best way to tell if you are over feeding. Really your betta needs only about the size of his eye ball daily. Skipping 1 day per week is also recommended.

Freeze dried bloodworms are treats for fish, not food. Betta's and all types of fish need flakes to keep it nice and healthy. You should feed Freeze dried bloodworms once every 2 days because fish don't just need blood to survive, they need other things that come with their fish flakes. yOU CAN INCRESE THE AMOUNT OF Freeze dried bloodworms as it gets older.

I have to agree with the others. It should be a treat and not a main stay of food. Flakes for bettas a food source and two or three blood worms twice a week as a treat would be best for now. As he grows he can have more.
Enjoy your new betta!
Good Luck and Take Care

feed the bloodworms in addition to your flakes daily. feed the flakes in the morning, and in the evening feed the bloodworms. feed only as much as that can be consumed within a 3 to 5 minute period.

Jenny already told you most of it. To add to that I like to suggest only feeding them 6 days a week and letting them fast the 7th. They may act like they're starving but Betta in the wild rarely get a full meal every day of the week. Fasting them one day will not harm them and actually helps them by letting them clear out their system once a week. Also on the 6th day's feeding, I like to feed them a boiled pea. I like to get a small bag of frozen peas (unseasoned) and boil it in hot water until thawed and cooked. Once it's cooled down (toss it into cold water for a few minutes) squish it a little so the insides are mushing out and drop it into the tank. It's a good bit of roughage that can help flush the system. Just pull the pea out of the tank after he nibbles on it for a few minutes.
