When I had my son, he was soo hard to burp.
So it depends onthe formula you given him. If its Similac then that is why its so hard to burp him. For some reason that formula is tough on the little bellies. Gives them gas, they cant even poop.
I love Nestle Good Start. I have no trouble with burping and pooping! It is the best formula base product!!
Rub the baby back when he is on the bed or something flat.

Congratulations on making it through 6wks! The first 6 are the hardest and you deserve to celebrate! :D
As someone has already said, not all babies need to burp all the time. It's possible that your baby no longer needs to burp as your milk supply would've settled by now and your baby would be quite proficient at feeding without taking in air. If your baby is having trouble with an obvious burp, you could try the above suggestions of rubbing and patting and laying across your lap.
Another thing you might like to try is sitting your baby up facing sideways on your lap from reclined feeding position. The pressure on their abdomen in this position may push the burp out.
Good luck!

Do you sit the baby on your knee, or do you put her over your shoulder?
It can take a while...I was amazed to find out that you could just rub her back VERY lightly...up between her shoulder blades, and she will burp just as easily. Don't give up...it is important that she burps.

My son at times would need gas drops to help break the air bubbles down. He also prefers that we pat him on the bottom rather the back.
You may also find that you are doing it too lightly or not vigorous enough to help stimulate the movement of the air bubbles. I saw this when I would let my friends without children try to burp my son at a young age.

With my son, I pat his butt and usually a burp will come out. If that doesn't work, I lay him down on my lap and put his belly on my leg and the pressure gets to burps out

each person has their own way to burp their baby. Patting or rubbing. You have to experiment and know that your kid is not going to break if you pat hard.

Pick up some alcohol free gripe water. I had to use that with my eldest because he really couldn't burp and, if he didn't he would end up spitting up everything later on.
Gripe water has been around for decades, very natural, just look for it without alcohol.

take the baby cross on your chest, resting its head on your shoulder- slowly and lightly rub his/her back- down to up- patting in between.
You need to do it only after feeding - few minutes after, ie. not all the time.
If even this doesnt work, give the kid a half spoonful of gripe-water twice/thrice a day- few more minutes- n repeat. Consult your paediatrician for exact doses and timings.

Try sitting down, and putting the baby flat on the tummy on your legs and rubbing and patting the back.

Instead of patting the baby on the back, try rubbing you hand up and down his/her back and throw a pat in there once in a while.
