there is not much you can do to prevent the scarring especially if the toddler scratches at it. The good thing is that being so young the scar will not be as bad and will develop into the normal skin color. Try seeing your doctor and ask about mederma, I am not sure you can use it in that young a patient or close to the eyes.

It depends on how deep the scratches or cuts are. If he is not in need of stitches, keep the scratches clean and moist with Johnson's first aid cream. Allow the scratches to heal in the air rather than cover with bandaids. The more natural healing the scratches do, the less the scarring. Surface cuts are nasty as they may not be deep, but they can peel or remove the first layer of skin. This often causes a scar moreso than a deep cut. He may show superficial scars for a little while but they will fade in time.

I had surgery last year and had read that Mederma was an excellent ointment but it was costly. I bought Vitamin E (liquid) and used it as often as I wanted. You could buy the Vitamin E capsules, puncture one with a small pin and squeeze the liquid out as well. I have a very light scar that's hardly noticeable. Being that the baby is only 1 it'll probably not be the only time he or she will get bumps and bruises. Good luck!

I always used straight vitamin A and E on my kids and they have no facial scarring from all of their falls. And that's saying a lot seeing as how I have 5 kids. Just pop open the capsules and apply it directly to the wound. It's pain free and works great!! (Just make sure you get the abrasion clean first)
