I think foodstamps/welfare, the space program, the prison system (execute them as soon as they are found guilty, don't keep the alive and feed and house them for years), and sports stadiums. More money should be spent on law enforcement and the military.

excuse me to the person who mentioned "people like me running around" well I did go to school and our nation needs more than education, we need better morals. I wish there were more people like me running around since I don't rob, kill, assault anyone. I don't bother my neighbors and I don't ask for handouts.

There is not enough room to list all of the ways they waste money. My dad was a federal employee for 27 years, and I was told about many things. Even the little things add up, like heating and cooling of the federal buildings. They keep it freezing in the summer, and hot in the winter. Expenses like gas in gov. vehicles, when the employees would decide to make personal errands even though they weren't supposed to. It's just like public schools that get our tax dollars. The money is SO mismanaged. The schools have cable in each room, that is never used, along with a tv, vcr, dvd player, telephones, internet service that the kids aren't allowed to use. The teachers are in control of the classroom temp, just like the gov. offices. Either way, it's money down the drain. In college, we learned that life in prison was cheaper than execution. I totally believe in the death penalty. Yes, some law enforcement is under paid, such as police officers. Federal marshals, are paid well. Yeah, I'm with you on these issues, especially the space program. What a waste! I know that if the government and schools eliminated all of the wasteful spending, we wouldn't need to increase taxes for a long time.

The space program has been responsible for a number of technological advances so it has it worth, they also put those satellites in space to allow you the communications you enjoy today. Foodstamps/welfare needs to be a more closely monitored program, if we can get the lifers off the program then we will have something good for those that really need it to fall back on when they need it. There does need to be an overall in the system that allows for those on death row to be alive to 20 years after the sentence. The appeal process is too drawn out. Those in the Military are not there for the money. In fact they are making a heck of a lot more today than what I did, so its getting better.

to answer the question before the diatribe; the biggest waste to taxpayers money are the managers in the bureaucracy. If we eliminated 70 % of the managers, we'd have a lot more money for the programmes.
now, as to eliminating food stamps/welfare: read East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Then, consider living in a country like India, where such programmes don't exist. Unless you round up the poor and shoot them, they've gotta go somewhere and eat something. Maybe it would be more effective to educate and or train them than to give them money to be idle.
as to executing prisoners; you must be American and I must tell you that most of the world is appalled by your present execution and incarceration rates, which are already the highest percapita on the planet. You particularly enjoy locking up young black men and executing them forthwith. I don't think speeding up the process will help the emotional state of the country: there are plenty of people worried enough by the financial straits your country faces; your nation is fast circling the bowl and comments like yours won't keep her from sinking.
your country already spends more percapita on law enforcement and more than all other nations COMBINED on the military; throwing money at these organisations won't remove the problems they create. No matter how many laws you create, no matter how many police officers you have to enforce them; people will continue to break the law if the benefit outweighs the risk; criminals don't think they are going to get caught so strong penalties and lots of officers won't deter folk. Take a look at the entertainment industry and fatherless homes if you want to change your society. Do you want to live in a police state, or in America, a nation of neighbours?THINK
by the way, the US is the biggest debtor to the UN and their obligation to pay UN dues is regularly ignored.

You must watch FOX news. We spend $498 billion on defense. The Iraq war will cost working class tax payers $2 trillion over ten years.
What has the small amount of Federal money spent on food stamps and welfare have to do with any of that?. Your talking penny's.
I agree prisons are full but they are there for a reason. I hope Foley joins them but I would not execute even that low life. Why is it Rush is not in Prison now? Republicans ended the Clinton program to put 100,000 new cops on the streets. Republicans would also dearly love to end Social Security. Republicans hate S.S. they always have. If Republicans do end that program then the Prison system better get ready for about 33 million more.

I believe the total opposite. Food stamps and welfare help alot of elderly people as well ( of ALL races), and handicapped. We should spend a little less money on rebuilding countries that hate us and will probably never reform, and feed the people in our own country that are in poverty. We need to take care of home first. Ooh and what about the education system, our children need to be invested in!! They are our future as the wise Whitney Houston said!! Not sure if u know this, but most of our budget is spent on Law enforcement and the military. I have relatives in the service, but they also have children who need a better school system. It affects all of us!!!

The Mexican border wall.
At a time where we are running low on troops, we're at war with two countries and contemplating sanctions on a third one, the last thing taxes should be wasted on is a petty wall to stop immigrants who want to work, not commit acts of terrorism
But, the decision is another Bushism

i think the biggest wasters of taxpayers money is all the style and fashions that the politicians do. their glitz and glamour, all due to the fact that they have a gift of the gab!!!!!!! the law enforcement and military will never protect the likes of u & me. they'll work for the rich and the politicians.
don't u think v pay a little too much for the fact that they are destructive and can never be constructive????

Def the space program. I for one dont give a rats azz about space. Yes welfare is a waste. Sports stadium arent a waste a lot of American culture is in sports such as baseball and football. Its a part of our culture. More should be spent on keeping schools safe and on education. Way too much is being spent on military as it is. Bilions are being spent every week on that damn war in Iraq.

One of the biggest wastes of taxpayers money is the ridiculous spending on advertisements that the politicians use to persuade you to vote for them.
