Their back yard is next to ours. The ball keeps coming over our 6 foot fence 2-3 times a day. I told them if it comes over again were keeping it. Thay said they will call the police because it is ielligal to keep their ball. I am tired of this happening, would it be ielligal to keep the blls that come over?

I don't care about the ball coming over...I just dont like getting up every 10 minutes to get it. I use to let them get it until 2 of our cars got keyed when they were in the back of our house.

Possession is 9/10Th's of the law.

But on the other hand, they are kids, give them back their ball, Meany.

Be kind now before they become teenagers.

If you have a fence up, then they have no business coming onto your property to retrieve the ball, without calling first and asking for your permission. It's your private property. My mom had a lot of kids in her neighborhood and no fence. She told the kids nicely not to play on her lawn and not to leave things on the lawn . If they left a ball or bicycle on her lawn, she took it and gave it to her granddaughter or niece when they came down. If something is left on your property on purpose, and they don't come get it at the end of the day, then it's yours. They can't want it very bad. But if the kids are coming to get it each time, I would call the police, and tell them the situation, and ask them if you nicely forwarned the kids that any balls that come over the fence, will be kept , as the balls could break a window or hurt someone and they can't keep walking over on people's private property, and they are still coming over the fence, do you have the right to keep the balls ,as they are on your private property. If the policeman says yes. Then ask if they can have an officer talk to the kids next door , telling them , so they will believe it and perhaps be more careful in the future or find another place to play ball, if they know they will have to get a new one each time. If the policeman says no you can't keep it, then ask him what he suggests ,and ask if he would speak to them.

They aren't going to call the police. That is what every kid says, but they never do. They're just trying to scare you.

So, when the balls come over, just don't get them. Let the balls stay there and pretend to not notice that their balls are coming over on your side. If the kids come onto your side to get the ball, though... this is what to do... set up a garden right by the fence where they would jump over... and then YOU can call the police and say that kids have been jumping over your fence and have vandalized your yard/garden.

I would tell the kids that if they throw it on purpose again, you are not giving it back so please don't do it. If they do it again, most likely they will squeal to there parents who will come out fighting saying there kid would never do that. Then you have to somehow be nice, but firm with the parents too and probably give back the ball. If you can borrow a big dog for a day or two, that might discourage the brats from coming into your yard. You could put up a beware of the dog sign too even if you don't have a dog. It sure would be nice if you could take a picture of them throwing the ball into your yard too. Kids can be such brats, but parents of these brats are usually worse. How do you think they learn to be such brats.

Let them call the police, if they call then maybe the police will tell them that they can't be doing that. And that could be the answer to your problem. Explain to the police that there is a reason why you have that fence and that you have tried to talk to them before. What is the worse that will happen? The police will tell you to give their ball back? Well then you aren't any worse off. But I really think that they will try to help you.

They are just kids and since you don't mind the ball coming over the fence, let them come over and get the ball. I know you said you did tell your cars got keyed, are you sure they did it any prof. If there just kids then what did they key your car with. And have you tried talking to the parents.

Have you approached their parents? Put a lock on your gate, and pay no attention to them. If you don't see the ball enter your yard, you can't return it. If they enter your locked yard, they will be the one trespassing. Also contact the local city ordinance and find out if the kids are just pulling your leg, when they say the ball must be returned. But most important, try to get along with them, or ignore them.

if the ball came over the fence...and you didnt notice-how could you be at fault. tell them you arent in the game-so you arent fetching their ball for them. Tell them every morning -only once- you will check for the ball and send it over, maybe they will be more careful if they lose the ball for a day everytime. Set up a table of glass and cans to make a crash noise when the ball comes over...then scream "you broke my 18th century vase-I'm suing for damages"

Call the local police and ask. Tell the kids they can't come on your property to retrieve the ball. You will return it when you feel like it.
