My boss is on vacation for the next 2 weeks. I know some of what she does on a daily basis, but not enough. I am going to be bombarded the next 10 work days by the guys in this office (none of which can do much of anything on their own). What is the best way to handle everything that comes my way? I've told myself to just do one thing at a time, remain calm, and when 5pm comes - run from the building. I don't do overtime. But what else can I do? I am a nervous wreck right now, like the calm just before the big storm. Any words of wisdom? I feel totally unqualified to do her job.

There is no one for me to delegate any work to. She is in Spain for 2 weeks so I can't reach her.

Deal with what you do know. Don't assume you know something if you don't. Call her if there is a problem that can't wait and put aside those things that can wait for her return. Good Luck!

Could you sit down with her with a pad of paper (filled with your questions too) and ask her what needs to be taken care of in her absence and write it all down? I'm sure she'll appreciate how interested you are and that you care about the company. Just say something businesslike, like "I want to make sure all the bases are covered here."

Good luck, it's hard being the boss sometimes. :)
