I am currenty pretty much unqualified for any thing, but am really interested in History and would love to teach. I have been thinking about this for a while, but have no clue as to what I am supposed to do!

The best way is to do either a B.A in History and then A P.G.C.E (Post Grad Cert of Education) This will take 4 years.

Or do a B.Ed in History, which will also take 4 years!

As a mature student its not quite so important to have previous qualifications in the exact subject you wish to study, but if you're younger you will need A-Level History or at the VERY least a GCSE!

Good luck!!!!

Hi there, i would think really carefully about becoming a history teacher as the future looks bleak for the humanities subjects, as they will not be part of the core subjects and some schools may drop history and geography altogether. have a look at the white paper for the education reforms for secondary schools. I don't know where you are but i do know that in the south east history posts come up very rarely so be expected to move around the country. I know this sounds like a lot of doom and gloom but should you carry on with you pursuit teaching is very rewarding even if extremely knackering. Good Luck

You need to first of all get some experience in school - you might just hate the kids!!!! The decide what age you want to teach. If it's primary you can do a teaching degree in History and Education, if it's secondary you can do a History degree, possibly with another subject, then you do a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) after that. Either way it's 4 long hard years honey!!

Go to a university and get a degree. You will need this plus the proper credentials for teaching in a public school.

If you have a degree you'll have to take some education courses and then probably take a test to get licensure. Check with your state department of education to make sure.
