Actually, while a first sentence can grab the reader, an editor is more likely to see if the first page makes him/her want to turn the page. If not, the book usually goes back. However, the editor also wants to see that the author can also write a middle and a satisfying ending.
Don't worry about the first line until you have more of the book/story. Usually you will change the opening several times before you finish the entire manuscript. You may not know what the first line should be until you get to the end.
Good luck with your writing.

Make it interesting so it catches the reader. dont always start when it happens but go to a good part. In Lord of The Flies the first sentence is "the boy with fair hair lowered himself down the last few feet if rock and began to pick his wat toward the lagoon." The plane already crashed and everyone was out and it makes it sound itnteresting like "who is he?" "how did he get there?"

If it was an adult book I would start it with this sentence.
They came from two completely different countries with different cultures but something attracted them to each other.
If it was a kids book I would start it with this sentence.
Rex was a nice dog.
