I mean, we already knew N. Korea had nukes, right? So who cares if they set one off where noone is around? That's just one less nuke they have. So why is everyone so damn worked up over this?

I understand why having nuclear weapons is a big deal. I agree. He could sell them or destroy us. But he already HAD nuclear weapons. Now that he tested one of them, why should that change things?

I saw a former UN inspector on TV say it wasn't a big deal. But iLL IL is acting like a child who doesn't get his way. He wants to eat with the grownups but we keep him at the kids table .

Actually, it is a really big deal. What would be a reason to test a nuclear bomb? None, unless you plan to use it. When I heard it on Friday, it stopped me in my tracks. I know that there is an international agreement (treaty) that says there will be no testing or bombs. North Korea withdrew twice (I think). This has been brewing for a while, and that is why most countries keep a close watch on N. Korea. Kim Jong IL is a very dangerous man and this is a very serious situation.

You will understand more if you research world history, especially the history of N. Korea and it's leader.

There are a more than a few uninformed answers, but the one written by "ilda" has to be the worst of all. I cannot believe it!!!

Lots of other countries have them, but most of them are led by responsible leaders who support a stable world society. North Korea is led by a dictator who spends his country's resources on trying to build a 3rd rate military into a 2nd rate one while his people starve. He also believes that he can be a serious player on the world stage if only he had a couple of thermonuclear devices to throw around. Well, he's accomplished that, at least.

But what happens the next time he thinks he has to thump his chest and proclaim his might? Does he detonate another nuclear weapon? Where? Japan? South Korea? Maybe an air burst, or undersea blast?

Or maybe he decides to sell one to raise some money to further his plans. Who does he sell to? Al Quaida? The Taliban? Where do you think they would use a nuke if they had one?

You should be really, really concerned over this.

Anytime a nuclear test is performed, it destroys the environment. Maybe just a small piece at a time, but it is not good for the earth. Also, it is dangerous enough for a country to have nuclear weapons, but when a country like N. Korea with a lunatic for a leader, there is truly reason for concern!

Honestly, it's a big deal to us because even though it's technically very poor country, North Korea actually has the launch capability to hit the United States. It's said that they would be able to hit Portland or Seattle if they so chose to launch.

It's also an issue because of the giant next to them, China. If North Korea launches, what's to stop China from displaying the same attitude they desplayed after the 9/11 attack on the USA.? China figured, "If it can happen to them, it can happen to us", and stepped up their security. In this case, what's to stop China from firing on North Korea if there is a launch?

Finally, who do you think North Korea would use nukes on that they would even need them? The free people of South Korea.

Because the nut in North Korea could point that little nuke any which he wanted. Japan, China, South Korea, or even the west coast of the United states. I guess you would what we would call "having a chamberlain moment"

We did testing of our Nukes in Whites Sands New Mexico, it is a pretty desolent area, I mean there is nothing and nothing gorws and this was how long ago. So why can't another countyr do the same thing. People need to be worked up about something and the media just fuels the fire. I agree, they should be able to test and not harm anyone.

Everyone is freaking out, because North Korea is lead by a crazy dictator. He is the closest our generation will come to a "Hitler." So the media isn't blowing it out of proportion, they are trying to warn people of the possible danger.

I just wonder why everyone is making such a fuss. Lots of other countries have nuclear weapons especially America and no one seems to worry. What's good for goose is good for gander. Why is it okay for some countries to have nuclear weapons and not others?

one more brick in the wall of fear corporations/government are steadily building; we should be far more concerned with Korea than Iraq
