What are some good ways to start a conversation. (For Public Speaking, I hate that class.)?

I have to do thing with our class. We have to carry on a conversation for 15 mins. So she has us in the freaking computer lab to look up ways to start a convo. Someone help me!

Ask people about themselves because everyone likes to talk about themselves. Ask where someone got their hair done, or where they got their shoes, earrings, whatever. It could lead to a conversation about shopping, which is always fun!

Public speaking can be one of the most feared activities in our lifetime. But there are some who do well on it. They somehow make it look so easy…I guess through practice one can improve his public speaking skills.

Here are some public speaking guidelines for you
1. Know your audience so you could focus on a topic of their interest.
2. Know you venue and check the sound system prior.
3. Know what you want to say and be clear what your speech is for.
4. Use visual aids to help you get your message accross.
5. Know when to start speaking and when to stop.
6. Identify the reason you're giving the talk and be prepared to answer the audience expectations.

I believe the best way to start a conversation is to say, "Have we met before?" Then introduce yourself, the other person will do the same. Once that's done, depending upon the environment in which the conversation is taking place, you can speak about your surroundings. It's something you both can see and discuss and automatically have in common.

pick something that not many people know anything about. this way you can make it up if you get stuck. In speech i used to talk about unicycles, becouse i know alot abou them yet most people have never seen one.
