Most tampon manufacturers recommend no longer than 8 hours, however most people will not wear for any longer than 4 hours because the longer a tampon is worn the greater the risk because the more bacteria are allowed to multiply and the longer the vagina is unable to clean itself.

Risks are not just from toxic shock syndrome, because tampons prevent vagina cleaning functions, cause vaginal splitting and give bacteria a place to multiply they also contribute to infections such as bacterial vaginosis, chemicals within commercial tampons such as Tampax do also pose more general health problems.

You can reduce risk by changing a tampon more often, by using safer tampons such as organic tampons [Natracare] or sponge tampons [Jade & Pearl], using a lesser absorbency tampon or switching to a safer menstrual method such as pads [Lunapads] or menstrual cups [Divacup].

No more than 8 hrs. max. I`d recomend changing every 4 hrs., if you can. Leaving a tampon in can cause TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome), which can lead to amputation of fingers & toes, & at worst even death. Read the leaflet in your tampon box to find out more, or look it up on the web. Also always use the least absorbent tampon you can get away with.

No more than about 4 hours. If you have it in longer than that you run the risk of developing toxic shock syndrome. It can be fatal, and there are warnings that come with the tampon packet. By the way it isn't such a wierd question.

Well it tells you on the box. Definitely NO more than 8 hrs and it depends on the absorbancy of the tampon and your flow. Longer use could result in TSS Toxic Shock Syndrome.

No more than eight hours (overnight or a work day). Obviously, if your flow is heavy, you should change it more often. There's no need to change every time you go to the bathroom. But leaving a tampon in too long can lead to infection or toxic shock syndrome.

You should only wear a tampon for 8 hours or less. Also, the higher the absorbency the greater chance you have of getting TSS.
