Do the people of Great Britain really look down on us Americans?
Personally, I hold the people of Great Britain in high regards. I find them to be very charming and intelligent people. It is a shame our government has given the rest of the world such a bad impression of us. Some of us are really good people! Honest!

Britain has an inferiority complex because we founded your country and now you are much more powerful than us. This leads to a backlash Americans have no culture (true of many Americans but true of many Brits too) or history kind of thing. It's comforting and fun to make fun of Americans and I suppose we feel you can take it as you are such a powerful nation. Laughing at the Africans and insulting them would not be the same.
Then you have Bush and American foreign policy in general, which has led much of the World (including Europe who always feel they should be running things) to despise America and whilst the average man on the street cannot be wholly blamed for the behaviour of the rich and powerful, surely we should accept some responsbility for the actions of our nations (personally Blair has made me ashamed to be British and I curse him for it - give it a few more years and I won't even be able to say that). Moreover, those of us who live comfortable western life styles should wake up to the fact that this is only possible because our Machavellian leaders keep the rest of the globe weak and poor.
There are many things we, and everyone in the World love about the States - music, films, some people even hamburgers - and as far as Britain is concerned we speak the same language and share a common cultural heritage; hating you is akin to looking into the mirror and hating your long lost half brother.
I haven't met any Americans I truly disliked (well, maybe one and I certainly don't like all the religious nuts but I have liked the vast majority).
I think the problem now is that America has become too powerful ie. the World Power which is bound to end in tears when you share the World with other peoples.

It's the same the world over, there are many good, some bad and some most excellent Americans.
I, personally, hate all the American sterotypes... the rest of you - I'll take as I find you.

Lots of people over here do like America and the culture. We love shows like "Man V Food" and the guy who hosts that, as well as lots of other things to do with the States. Most people I know would go to America tomorrow if they could to experience it! I am not sure if anyone looks down on America, and even if they do, they are probably miserable jerks that should be ignored.

Its stupid to hate a nation, especially one such as yourselves. Hell, we have such a long history, we're family, mother and son and all that..
Meh, i look in amazement at some of the American Right and this bizzare Liberal Witchhunt..but yeah, i've got no qualms

No, I don't look down on Americans, I have many American friends. There are some Americans who seem to have been brought up with this overwhelmingly arrogant nationalism that you don't seem to get anywhere else, but you judge people on their merits. Britain is full of rampant class snobbery as well, no one's perfect!

no we dont look down on you ,we quite like you actually we just have a problem with ,ours are bigger,better ,faster, that type of thing but on the whole i think most of you are jolly nice ,i even enjoy the NFL a strange but enjoyable sport

I'm American and i don't give a rats azz about what british people think about me or my country and i don't know why you do, if there mad because i'm proud of my country and its accomplishments they can get the hell over it!
