MUCH going on in their lives that they DO NOT HAVE TIME to be depressed? But, if they had the time then they would be prime candidates?

Do you understand what I am saying?

And doesn't that kinda show that depression is only in your mind anyway? Like I can choose to be depressed, or I can choose to get up and live my life and then that 'depressed'feeling just goes away.

I understand exactly what you are saying. Some people dont have time to be depressed. But people who dont have time to be depressed DO have time to be STRESSED OUT.

Yes, I think a person can be depressed but keep very busy so he or she doesn't dwell on it. That person may deny he or she is depressed, but doesn't mean he or she isn't depressed.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't believe depression is really a choice. A depressed person who doesn't know or chooses to deny he or she is depressed and is just keeping really busy can come across as one of those emotionless, workaholic zombies. On the surface, that person may seem OK, but in private moments, may indulge in any number of activities like substance abuse to avoid facing the dangerous darkness eating away at them in the hidden recesses of their minds.

A person like that isn't too busy to be depressed. He or she is still functioning, but is disintegrating inside. Before modern psychology came along, I think tons of people were depressed but didn't know what to call it.

I think that exists two states of depression. One is the one you described it, the second one is clinically proving that brains act differently in that state than to a normal person. That kind of depression is very serious, because people are suicidal and mostly can't even go out from their bad.

Yes..I do understand. I fall into that catagory. There is so much in my life that causes anxiety for me,and without my medication and me staying busy, I would be a basket case. It would be real easy for me to hide in my room all day. never get out of bed, not talk to people or deal with anything. But there are so many people that expect me to be there for them and take care of things. And that in itself causes me problems. I feel like I always have to please everyone else, then after a while, I withdrawl from everyone and feel like I want to run away.
If you are feeling this way, please talk to someone. A little over a year ago, I tried to commit suicide, and thank god I didnt, but depression can control your life without help. Thank you for a great question...Have a GREAT DAY !!!!!

I think I understand, but if they were depressed, then they couldn't do anything because they wouldn't have the energy. You can't really be depressed and working at the same time. If you're depressed, you can't even get out of bed sometimes.
