There are millions of Americans - how can you make such a generalisation?
And I never really noticed Americans baking lots of pies and cookies in the movies... any American baking in a movie tends to be a mother or grandmother, which is pretty much the same in any country. My grandmother used to bake cakes all the time and she's not American.
However I do have a couple of American friends and they do tend to make desserts more than other people I know. I tend to just buy packets of biscuits, doughnuts, Mr Kipling cakes or stuff baked in the supermarket, but my American friends are much more into buying the ingrediants and preparing it themselves, especially brownies, which you don't really get here. But then my housemate bakes cookies all the time and he's British...

Some do. Some don't. I bake cookies but let Sara Lee do the pies. I personally bake more muffine than anything, oh, and brownies! so, yeah, I guess we do. it is a comfort thing as well as a yummy food thing.

My american friend bake pies and cookies but also buy them they are no diffrent to us. If she is shattered she will buy take out but on the whole cooks like I do from scratch as it is healthier and cheaper.
She used to think all us Brits had no sense of humour, lived in big posh houses like the queen and we where loaded she has now met me and knows their troubles are ours too and we Brits have a fantastic humour. lol

It depends. I don't. But my best friend does. It just depends on
1. Whether you like to cook or not.
2. If you do like to cook, then what do you like to cook.
By the way, do Brits really have tea and crumpets (actually, what is a crumpet?not quite sure) the way Americans have always heard that they do?

I can't speak for all Americans; but I do! I don't know anyone else that has the passion for it that I do, though! I love to bake and cook! Hey, you guys! You can make sweets with Splenda, artificial sweetener!! The sweets, without the calories!! My kids can't even tell the difference!! And, I still get to do what I love!! Who wants to have incredibly large nickers?? Not me!! LOL !!

That question is about as sensible as an American asking if all Londoners walk around eating jellied eels and saying cor blimey. You wanna watch yourself, and don't waste points on such things. I'm a Geordie, so I'm just off to make some pease pudding. Why aye!

I do, many Americans do. However I think many of us are taking advantage of the convenience of being able to buy them just about anywhere. We eat allot of cookies!!!!

i dont really think they do as americans are renowned for being lazy so why go to the bother of making them with the risk of them going wrong so they would see just going to a shop and buying sokme as the better option
